Drumset
Brett has maintained a reputation as one of the most versatile drummers on the scene for over 10 years. He started playing drums at the age of 13 with a previous musical background that includes piano and trumpet. He first studied drums with Monte Alton at Mozingo Music. During his high school years at Lafayette he received many IAJE awards for outstanding musicianship and soloist. He has performed in every musical setting including concert band, symphonic band, jazz band, marching band, pep band, and orchestra. During this time he studied with many accomplished drummers such as Glen 'Papa' Wright and Ed Shaughnessy (Johnny Carson Tonight Show Band). During his later years in high school, Brett received more acclaim from the Sonar Drum Company as they offered him a scholarship after winning 2nd place in a country wide drum competition. Brett also placed in the top 10 in the 'Best Unsigned Drummer in the Country' contest where he performed in front of drumming legends Dave Weckl, Marvin "Smitty" Smith, and Rod Morganstein. Brett went on to study percussion with an emphasis in jazz performance at Webster University. His teacher, Kevin Gianino, helped refine his techniques. He performed as the 1st chair drummer in the school's big band as well as many combos during his studies. His accolades as a professional include a regular performing and recording schedule with numerous performers from around the country. Brett's own band 'Lapush' released their debut record, 'Someplace Closer to Here' on 456 Entertainment (co-owner Carson Daly) during the spring of 2005. He also is the author of the drum method book 'Rhythm & Notation'. With many years experience of teaching private lessons, his expertise as a teacher also extends to clinics and master classes at local high schools and colleges. Brett teaches many styles including rock, jazz, latin, concert and marching percussion. He focuses on the basic fundamentals while also developing advanced techniques in the experienced player.
