Mandolin/Guitar/Classical Guitar/Dobro/Electric and Upright Bass
James graduated from Webster University in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in music specializing in composition and education. His own musical education began at the age of two at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville in a Suzuki violin course for small children. He then moved to the piano at age four, and continued those studies with the same two teachers until the age of fourteen. Fretted instruments then took over and James started studying the guitar at fourteen along with the electric bass, upright bass and mandolin at fifteen. He joined his father’s bluegrass band at fifteen years old and performed live music with them all over the St. Louis area for the next twelve years.
James specializes in bluegrass, country, and other folk music, but also teaches rock, blues, classical and just about any other type of music that a student requests. He has been teaching in the St. Louis area for over eight years and currently heads the Bug Tussel Bluegrass Band.
